God is amazing. With this being the last week before school starts, we had many out seeing family for the last time, or illness, or preparing for the kids to go back. Even under these circumstances, God sent someone to our faith family with a true heart and passion for children. God adds to our family each week. This is even with us not trying to reach out at this point. God knows out hearts and our passions and He is growing our family as He sees fit.
Last week we asked, "If you were going to be adopted into a family, what would you want to know"? I think you would want to know who they are and what are they like. So we answered that as we are adopted into the family of God, we must understand that He is our "Abba! Father!" and to understand what He is like we looked at Isaiah 40:25-31. We concluded that He has no equal, He is the Creator, He is unmatched, He understands all, and He is a giver.
Once you have been adopted then most would ask, "What's in it for me"? What are the benefits I will receive by becoming a part of a family. As I look at my own children that have been adopted I see so many benefits. They have received love that they would never have gotten. They have never missed a meal. They have a safe warm place to call home. So what are the benefits from being adopted into the family of God?
We must first understand why we are here. We are here because "God made me to love me". The same God that is so incredible from Isaiah 40 is the same God that wants to love me. So often when you adopt a child it takes them a little while before they open up and let you hold them and they love you back. While you love them from the moment you know you will be getting them, the child may not show that same love. So it is with our "Abba! Father!". He loves us dearly yet so often we don't understand and we don't accept Him completely. Please know, "God made me to love me".
Second, we need to understand that what our purpose is. God created us for the purpose of Knowing Him! The more your adopted child gets to know you, the more they desire to be like you. The more we know God, the more we desire to be like Him. We can only get to know Him through talking with Him daily and reading His word. You find out that God is amazing and he loves you regardless of your circumstances.
o what are the benefits for me as I am adopted into the family of God? He takes care of my needs!!! My daughter went off to college this week. As her Dad, I wanted to make sure all of her needs were taken care of. Can you imagine if I try that hard and I am so imperfect, how much more does our Heavenly Father do to take care of our needs?
There are four major needs God fulfills in our lives:
1. Provision- Matthew 6:25-33
It would be simple to say God provides food, clothes and drink. He tells us not to worry. He can take away our anxiety. What this scripture truly tells us is that with singleness of devotion, the child of God can enjoy complete confidence in God's care and guidance, which will free us from anxiety.
2. Peace- Matthew 11:28-29
He simply tells us to trust in Him. He wants us to lean on Him and learn from Him. That is what He means when He tells us to take His yoke.
3. Power- Philippians 4:11-13
Have you ever placed yourself in situations that you needed to experience God's power? We often say we are in up to our neck or in over our head. We have put ourselves in these situations and then we are in need of God's power. We are looking for a miracle. What this scripture tells us is, first, be content in all situations. Second, I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. It may not be the miracle I was looking for but it will be God's way. Lean on Him.
4. Purpose- Ephesians 2:10
The first thing we must see from this scripture is that we were CREATED. Anything created has a purpose. We are not here by accident or chance. Also, we were created in His image. The scripture tells us we were created in Christ. His image. Ask yourself, what image do you portray? What do people see and what would they say?
As I looked over this powerful message, I made me think of my friend Ryan Bomberger. Ryan has an amazing story. Ryan knows he was created, that he is not here by chance or accident. If you want to understand this please go to Ryan's website, www.thisisryan.com. On this is a link at the bottom that is very powerful. Please spend time there and read. He and his wife Bethany are fellowshipping with our faith family and working in ministry with us.
Please ask yourself these question. Do you feel you feel you have no purpose? Do you lack peace in your life? Do you feel you are all by yourself? Do you never feel content? Is this you? Do you sit at home or at your place of work and cry or struggle with doing life alone? Please let me tell you about my adoption and the benefits. Let me tell you of a love that exceeds anything you could ever imagine. Please make sure you contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would love to talk with you. Also, please visit our church and begin to feel the love of a family.
1. Those that God will be bringing into our family.
2. That we reach out to a hurting world that does not feel these needs being met.
3. Workers! We are preparing for our launch. We have so many incredible opportunities to reach a hurting world.
4. Financial stewardship and wisdom. As we prepare to launch, human nature tells us to want the best. What we need is what God gives us and prepares us for.
